Title (original)
OSPAR Pilot Project on Monitoring Marine Beach Litter _ Monitoring of marine litter in the OSPAR region
Description
The OSPAR Pilot Project on Monitoring Marine Beach Litter (2000–2006) has been the first region-wide attempt in Europe to develop a method for monitoring marine litter on beaches and to assess presence of marine litter on the beaches in the OSPAR region, using this standardised method. This final report is a summary of the results obtained during the project, and of the experience gained during this 6-year learning process. In the report one finds a presentation of the monitoring methodology, which has been developed within the pilot project, as well as an analysis of beach survey data gathered and assessments of marine litter quantities, composition, and trends in the OSPAR region. Furthermore, the report includes important lessons learned and considerations by the Steering Group regarding future marine litter monitoring.
