Short Description
In 2006, United States Congress authorized the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Marine Debris Program (NOAA MDP) as the Federal government’s lead for addressing marine debris. The mission of the NOAA Marine Debris Program is to investigate and prevent the adverse impacts of marine debris, and achieves this through five main pillars: Removal, Prevention, Research, Regional Coordination, and Emergency Response. NOAA MDP staff are positioned across the U.S. in order to support projects and partnerships with state and local agencies, tribes, non-governmental organizations, academia, and industry. The NOAA MDP also works internationally to support global and regional partnerships and organizations to reduce marine debris incidence in the global ocean
